About this role

In this role you will be leading the engineering team that builds Apps and SPAs BT,EE & Plusnet Customer Self-Service platforms. Your teams will create seamless and effective automated delivery pipelines that take features from development into production. You’ll help to build the teams that design, build and maintain our websites and applications writing code that is seen by millions of customers each month.

This is a role with real organisational impact that is central to a brilliant always on digital experience for our customers and driving future technology propositions in the business.


You'll have the following responsibilities

  • Key interface with internal customers, operations teams and other technology teams inside and outside of the business
  • Responsible for technical roadmap creation and prioritisation
  • Manage the delivery of high quality digital self-service applications
  • Manage day-to-day performance, delivery efficiency and quality of any outsourced engineering work
  • Manage supplier relationships
  • Coach and manage a cross functional teams of developers, testers, analysts and DevOps Engineers
  • Working alongside QA Manager, decide on test technology and techniques including driving automated test first practices
  • Decide priorities and drives resolution of defects & tech debt
  • Accountable for all code security and compliance of your platforms
  • Understanding complex / conflicting business requirements and delivering to tight deadlines
  • Signing off estimates for work packages to be delivered by the team
  • Manage technical impediments, risks and issues

You'll have the following skills & experience

Essential Skills/Experience :

  • Strong experience building and leading a high performing geographically dispersed engineering team
  • Excellent internal and external senior stakeholder management
  • Previous experience working with technologies such as ReactJS, NextJS, J2EE Java, iOS, Android, Kotlin, Flutter
  • Expert in Agile and lean methodologies with a proven ability to foster the right behaviours and culture across the team
  • Able to structure, recruit, train, and mentor a high performing permanent engineering team

"Nice to have" Skills/Experience :

  • Worked with and refined DevOps CI/CD pipelines and automation practices
  • Exposure to BDD & TDD approaches and tooling
  • Building and deploying large scale applications in the cloud (GCP/AWS etc)
  • Experience of event based systems (Kafka/RabbitMQ etc)
  • Solid understanding of microservices architecture patterns
  • Previous Telco experience
  • Exposure to TMF API standards
